Laugh Your Stress Away

February 18, 2019

We all know how wonderful we feel when we laugh and when we hear other people laughing around us. Our energy vibration levels rise, and we see life differently.

What seemed to be a stressful situation when treated with a good dose of laughter seems to lighten the load and those tense muscles, especially those clenched jaw muscles, begin to relax.

I receive and send out at least ten Whatsapps daily to about fifty family and friends and during the day just taking a minute off to read and then send the appropriate ones to the relevant people brings a smile to my face and no doubt to theirs too.

But does laughter really reduce your stress levels? Laughter relaxes the entire body as muscles are released from their tense state and sometimes it feels like a dam wall breaking and releasing torrents of water downstream. By decreasing stress hormones your body increases your immune cells as well as developing your antibodies which are your infection fighters.

Your body has its unlimited store of natural feel-good chemicals known as endorphins. These endorphins create the “high” athletes feel as well after about 20 minutes of exercising. Sustained laughter triggers these endorphins too.

When you laugh you increase your oxygen intake and with that an increase in your blood flow improving the functionality of your heart muscle.

If you become angry your body functions poorly and your health suffers. If you can stop your anger in its tracks and find something to laugh about instead you change your body’s negative functioning to positive states.

In reality, whatever has made you angry is likely to be forgotten about in a week, a month or a year so don’t allow your ego to hijack your emotions and endanger your health. See if you can find something to laugh about in the incident that has caused you anger. Even if you find that laughing about your overreaction does the trick, that will stop your anger in its tracks and send in your endorphins through laughter.

Laughter is a great attractor of friends, and your self-esteem will be boosted if you are seen as someone to be around because you are often laughing at life and making those around you feel good too.

Find a way to be in the stream of laughter. By that, I mean place yourself where you can find laughter. Watch a comedy instead of a thriller or drama movie. Read joke books on the Internet or from a bookstore. Listen to comedy on the radio and via the Internet, for example on youtube.com.

Send and receive Whatsapps and funny emails often during the day. Associate with funny people. Learn to laugh at yourself which will increase your humility and decrease your ego’s control over your emotions.

In my free book Managing Your Stress Effectively found on personalempowerment.co you will discover how to reduce your stress levels in various places such as at work, at home, and different other areas such as finance, etc.

Also on personalempowerment.co we have a section entitled Laughter where I have compiled a free joke book- Spiritual Laughter- comprising religious and spiritual jokes.

Laugh and the world laughs with you, cry, and you cry alone.
